This is the second time that the JD(U) has broken its alliance, joining the RJD.

BREAKING NEWS : After a rift in the alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nitish Kumar on Tuesday, 9 August, resigned as the Chief Minister of Bihar by submitting his resignation to Governor Fagu Chauhan.

Nitish Kumar told the media outside the Raj Bhavan in Patna, "There was an agreement among all the MPs and MLAs that we should leave the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Once it was decided, I came here and served as the Chief Minister. submitted his resignation." ,

Sources said the Janata Dal (United) chief had earlier told the party MLAs that he was breaking the alliance with the BJP as it was conspiring to break the JD(U).

Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar arrived at the residence of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav as the JD(U) is in talks with the party over the formation of a new government. Sources said the RJD has demanded that Yadav be made home minister in the new cabinet and also demanded the post of president.

Responding to the incidents, Chirag Paswan said, "After today, CM has no credibility. He spoke against Jungle Raj and is going with him now. We demand President's rule."

After the JD(U)-BJP breakup today, daughters of former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav tweeted in celebration saying that he is back in the game in Bihar. Mr Yadav's daughter Rohini Acharya claimed the "kingmaker" as she tweeted a Bhojpuri song: "Lalu bin chalu e bihar na hoi (Bihar can't run without Lalu).

Numbers say that JDU and RJD together have the power to form the government..
