However, the brand will be reborn as they plan to bring a corn-starch-based powder to the market. In a Reuters report, Johnson & Johnson has been more than 38,000 lawsuits claiming that its talc products are considered carcinogenic due to contamination with asbestos minerals.

The company released a statement saying the move came as they continued to "evaluate and optimize" their portfolio of products. It adds:

Talcum powder has long been used in baby products because of its ability to keep the skin dry and prevent diaper rash. However, mines that produce the powder can also contains asbestos, a mineral once used in products such as the manufacture of insulation that scientists have often linked to cancer.

Several consumer companies have also found that corn starch can provide benefits similar to talc without the risk of asbestos.

“Our position on the safety of our cosmetic talc remains unchanged. We stand firmly behind decades of independent scientific analysis by medical experts around the world that confirms that talc-based Johnson Baby Powder is safe, does not contain asbestos , and it does not cause cancer," a company statement said.
