IT officials disguise as baraatis and seize property worth Rs 390 crore, 52 crore cash, 32 kg gold and more.

About 250 passengers were Income Tax (I-T) and local police officers, disguised as baraatis, and on their radar were two major manufacturers of steel TMT bars, who were suspected of tax evasion.


Jalna is famous for steel production in Maharashtra. But, the Income Tax Department has brought to the fore the illegal industry of steel makers. The Income Tax Department raided the houses, farmhouses and offices of steel manufacturing factories. The Income Tax Department has had to make a lot of effort in this raid.


Unaccounted assets worth 390 crores have come to the fore. In this, Rs 16 crore including 58 crore cash, 32 kg gold jewellery, diamonds have been found. Apart from this, documents of property worth 300 crores have also been found.


The department took 13 hours to count the seized cash. It took the officials about 13 hours to calculate the exact amount of cash seized during the raids.


After receiving inputs about alleged tax evasion by these business groups, the Income Tax Department had constituted five teams. Each group of officers was also given a special 'code-word'.


The HT report said officers found cash under cupboards, beds and some were kept in bags. The money was recovered from a farmhouse outside Jalna when they could not find much in their homes.
