BM The principal of the Pharmacy College in Indore, which was set on fire by an alumnus, succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a hospital in Indore on the morning of February 25, police said.

The family members and staff of BM College have alleged that the tragic incident took place due to the inaction of the police, as several complaints were made against the accused in the past, but no action was taken against him.

The accused had earlier stabbed a college professor and created ruckus in the campus on several occasions. He had also sent threatening messages to the college principal several times in the past.

Principal Vimukta Sharma was seriously injured after allegedly pouring petrol on 24-year-old Ashutosh Srivastava. Officials quoted the accused as saying that he had passed the B.Pharma exam in July 2022, but despite several demands, the college management was not giving him his marksheet, which the college rejected.

Rakesh Sharma, secretary of the Patel Education Society, which runs the college, had accused Srivastava of stabbing and injuring a college professor about four months ago over a marksheet dispute. Sharma said Srivastava was arrested in that case and released on bail.

"Srivastava, after his release from jail, was putting undue pressure on the lady principal and other staff of the college to withdraw the case registered against her," he said.

Superintendent of Police (Country) Bhagwat Singh Virde said the accused himself had suffered 25 per cent burns during the attack on the principal and was admitted to the hospital after his arrest.

प्रधानाचार्य विमुक्ता शर्मा 24 वर्षीय आशुतोष श्रीवास्तव पर कथित रूप से पेट्रोल डालने के बाद गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गईं। अधिकारियों ने आरोपी के हवाले से बताया कि उसने जुलाई 2022 में बी.फार्मा की परीक्षा पास की थी, लेकिन कई मांगों के बावजूद कॉलेज प्रबंधन उसे उसकी मार्कशीट नहीं दे रहा था, जिसे कॉलेज ने खारिज कर दिया.

कॉलेज चलाने वाली पटेल एजुकेशन सोसायटी के सचिव राकेश शर्मा ने श्रीवास्तव पर करीब चार महीने पहले मार्कशीट विवाद को लेकर कॉलेज के एक प्रोफेसर को चाकू मारकर घायल करने का आरोप लगाया था. शर्मा ने कहा कि श्रीवास्तव को उस मामले में गिरफ्तार किया गया था और जमानत पर रिहा किया गया था।

उन्होंने कहा, "श्रीवास्तव जेल से छूटने के बाद कॉलेज की महिला प्राचार्य और अन्य कर्मचारियों पर दर्ज मामले को वापस लेने के लिए अनुचित दबाव बना रहा था।"

पुलिस अधीक्षक (देश) भगवत सिंह विर्दे ने कहा कि प्रिंसिपल पर हमले के दौरान आरोपी खुद 25 प्रतिशत जल गया था और गिरफ्तारी के बाद उसे अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया था।
