Another day, another raid by ED: total Rstp cores worth 'cash mountain 'and 8Kg gold found at TMC Minister's aide Rs 21 crores were received on 1 day and Rs 29 crores last night
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has found another Rs 28.90 crore in cash, over 5 kg gold and several documents at second apartment of Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of arrested Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, days after recovering Rs 21 crore from her first flat. Officials, who took 10 hours to count the money, said a huge amount of money was recovered from the toilet.
So far, ₹ 50 crore in cash has been recovered from the two homes of Mukherjee. Some crucial documents have also been seized that are being examined by the authorities.
The raids were carried out as part of the ED's investigation into a money laundering case linked to a school jobs scam in the state. Partha Chatterjee, a senior minister in Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's cabinet and her close aide, is accused of having a role in allegedly illegal appointments of school teachers and staff in government-run schools when he was Education Minister.
ED sleuths raided different locations in connection with the ongoing probe into irregularities in the employment in schools, an official in the central agency said as reported by PTI. Raids were also conducted in few places including Rajdanga and Belghoria where three properties belonging to Arpita was found.
Commenting on Chatterjee and his associate's questioning, the official said, though Mukherjee has been "cooperative throughout", the former Bengal education minister was "noncooperative"
"We are finding grilling Mr Chatterjee quite difficult. He has been very stubborn and noncooperative with our officers. He is not replying to our questions," the official said.
Chatterjee and Arpita were taken to for regular medical check-ups at the ESI hospital at Joka before being interrogated by the ED. They were discharged from the hospital after about two hours of medical tests and were taken back to the ED office at the CGO complex in Salt Lake.
