Click the photo of an illegally parked vehicle and earnd 500 rupees: govt to bring new 'potential'lae that will engage citizens

The Union Transport Ministry is working on bringing a new law wherein people clicking and sending pictures of wrong parking of cars will be rewarded from the fine collected from the offenders. The Ministry believes such a move might curb illegal parking.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had reportedly said that the law will be enforced under which a person sending photograph of a wrongly parked vehicle will get Rs 500/- if the total fine works out to be Rs. 1000/-.

Addressing an event in Delhi, Gadkari, who is known for his frank views, said that he is contemplating legislation to curb the practice of wrongly parked vehicles on streets, which often results in the clogging of roads.

It has not been confirmed whether the minister's statement is indeed supported by a legislative scheme.

Gadkari said that these days it has as if become a requirement for everyone to own a car. He added that his cook in his Nagpur residence also owns two second hand cars.

“Earlier we used to get shocked seeing maids and cooks in America coming to work in cars. But now the situation is the same in India,” the minister said as the audience laughed.

Gadkari further stated that nowadays a family of four owns six vehicles. Talking about the situation in Delhi, the Union minister said Delhiites are lucky as it appears that “we have made roads for them to park their vehicles”.

“Nobody makes parking spaces, most of them park their cars on the streets,” he added.

Car sales in India have seen a spike recently after steep fall in numbers due to the Covid pandemic.

Passenger vehicle dispatches to dealers in India rose over two-fold in May 2022, compared to the low numbers in the Covid-hit May of 2021.
