Maharashtra environment and tourism minister Aaditya Thackeray on Sunday said the state could be seeing the fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, while urging people not to panic.


The western state has seen a spike in Covid-19 cases for the past one week and the daily tally has been over the 1,000-mark for the last five days.


On Sunday, Maharashtra added 1,494 cases which pushed the total figure to 78,93,197. As many as 614 patients recovered and one more patient succumbed to the virus, taking the total number of recoveries and deaths to 77,38,564 and 1,47,866 respectively.


Maharashtra government has also made masks in public places mandatory again in light of rising cases.


The state has seen a 54% rise in reported COVID-19 cases in the previous 24 hours, with 700 of the new 1,018 infections recorded in Mumbai itself.


Meanwhile, as per a report, Karan Johar's birthday bash turned out to become a COVID super-spreader event, infecting over 50 guests including Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and more.


However, quoting a source, the India Today's report on Sunday said Karan was presently filming for Koffee With Karan and everyone is undergoing the mandatory Covid-19 tests due to the major surge.


A Bollywood news portal even quoted a source, saying that "Karan's close friends from the Bollywood film industry are Covid-infected after the party, although they are not revealing that they've tested positive."
