Europe's Biggest startup summit recognizes India as "country of the year" : global recognition of Indian startups

Europe's biggest startup conference - Vivatech 2020 has recognized India as the "country of the year."

"This is a great honour for India to be recognized as the country of the year for Vivatech 2020. This is due to the contribution of the Indian startups to the world. This is the recognition of Indian startups. We have embarked on this exciting journey," said Union Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

"A journey of which if you combine a billion smartphones, bank accounts and billion-plus digital identities the solutions which are coming out of this combination are unique. Nowhere in the world will you find the scale that we have in India. Nowhere in the world will you find the energy level we have among the young minds in the country," added Vaishnaw.

The designation is a global recognition of India's contribution to the world of technology, innovation and startups, and also marks 75 years of India's independence and as many years of Indo-France diplomatic relations, the Indian embassy in France said in a statement.

This year, the Indian delegation at the VivaTech will be led by union minister for communication, electronics & IT Ashwini Vaishnaw, Indian ambassador to France Jawed Ashraf, over 100 officials, CEOs and digital experts. India will showcase to the world its success in public digital infrastructure including those for digitisation of payments, financial inclusion, health and welfare etc.

Last year, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered the keynote speech at the Viva Technology conference. He said India is the ideal destination for startups to flourish at Europe’s biggest startup and tech event.

For this year’s conference, the government of India has selected 15 Indian startups and companies to showcase indigenously developed tech products.
